For guests . You’ve been invited to take photos.

Someone shared a QR code or a link with you. Here is exactly what happens when you use it, and what happens to your photos afterward.

What to expect

Six small steps. No account.

  1. Scan the code or tap the link.

Use your phone’s normal camera app to scan the QR code. Nothing to download, nothing to sign up for.

  2. Type your first name.

That’s all we ask: no email address, no phone number. You also confirm you’re 13 or older. The host sees your name next to your photos after the reveal.

  3. Allow the camera.

Your phone asks to use the camera. Tap Allow. If you tap Cancel or Don’t Allow, tap Try Again on the page; if it still doesn’t ask, follow the steps the page shows.

  4. Take photos.

The host decides how many photos each guest gets per day, so make them count. There’s no preview and no retake, just like a disposable camera.

  5. Then put your phone away.

If you have signal, your photos are already sent. If not, they wait on your phone and go out the next time you open your link.

  6. See everyone’s photos at the reveal.

At the time the host chose, the album opens for everyone at once. Nobody sees any photo before then, not even the host.

Good to know

Your photos, your privacy.

  • Only the people in the chapter can see the photos. There is no public page, and nothing automated ever looks at them.
  • Photos are encrypted, each chapter with its own key.
  • No ads, no tracking. We keep your first name and the photos you take, with the time you took them.
  • If a photo of you shouldn’t be in an album, ask the host to take it down, or write to hello@thischapter.app.
  • Use a regular browser tab, not a private one. Private tabs forget everything when they close, including photos that haven’t sent yet.

If something’s wrong

Quick answers.

The camera won’t open. What now?

Your phone asks for permission to use the camera. Tap Allow. If you tapped Cancel or Don’t Allow, tap Try Again on the page. If it still doesn’t ask, follow the steps the page shows.

Use a regular browser tab, not a private one: private tabs forget everything when they close.

What if there’s no signal?

Once you have joined, the camera keeps working with no signal. Each photo is saved on your phone first and sent while the page is open and you have signal. If you close the page, unsent photos wait on your phone and go out the next time you open your link.

Can I retake a photo?

No. In the camera, a photo is final the moment you take it, like a real disposable camera. There is no preview and no retake.

What if a photo of me shouldn’t be in the album?

Ask the host. After the reveal, they can take any photo down. You can also report a photo in the album, or write to hello@thischapter.app: we act on emailed reports within 24 hours.
